What is FileMyLtd?

What is FileMyLtd?

FileMyLtd is online software that lets the director of a small UK limited company prepare and file the company's own year-end filings, without paying an accountant for work the company doesn't need. It covers three filings:

  • Dormant company accounts for Companies House, for companies that had no significant transactions in the year.
  • Micro-entity accounts for Companies House, for small trading companies within the micro-entity limits.
  • The CT600 Company Tax Return for HMRC, prepared from the micro-entity accounts you have just approved, with the Corporation Tax worked out step by step.

We built FileMyLtd because we file our own company's accounts and wanted software that does the fiddly parts and explains the rest. The director always reads the final accounts, makes the declaration and presses submit. Nothing is ever sent without you.

FileMyLtd is in early access. Filing is being tested with the Companies House and HMRC software filing services, and live filing opens to early-access members first.

Why Filing Is Changing

Why Do Small Companies Need Filing Software Now?

Two free government services that many directors used to file their own accounts are going away:

ChangeDateWhat it means
HMRC closed its "File your accounts and Company Tax Return" online service31 March 2026A CT600 can no longer be filed on HMRC's website. Companies must use commercial software to file their Company Tax Return.
Companies House stops accepting accounts through WebFiling or on paper1 April 2028All companies, dormant ones included, must file accounts using software in iXBRL format.

In October 2026 the government also paused its plan to make small companies and micro-entities file a profit and loss account with Companies House, so the current filing requirements carry on from April 2028.

For a dormant company or a one-person trading company, the choice is now between an accountant, general accounting software, or a tool built for exactly these filings. FileMyLtd is the third option.

HOW IT WORKS

How to File Your Company Accounts with FileMyLtd

From your company number to a submitted filing in four steps. You stay in control of every figure.

Stage 01

Find Your Company

Type your company number. The company name, directors and filing deadlines come straight from the Companies House register, so you don't type them in.

Expected window: Step 1

  • Company details from Companies House
  • Your accounts and tax deadlines

Dormant Company Accounts

File Dormant Company Accounts Online

A dormant company still has to file accounts with Companies House every year, within 9 months of the end of its financial year. Filing the accounts is free at Companies House, but a late filing penalty starts at £150 for a private company and rises to £1,500 if the accounts are more than six months late. The penalty is doubled if the accounts are late two years in a row.

With FileMyLtd you answer a short set of questions to confirm the company really was dormant, then the software prepares the dormant accounts, checks them and sends them to Companies House once you approve. You will need your company authentication code from Companies House to file.

  • Dormancy questions that walk through each type of transaction, so you know whether the company qualifies.
  • Last year's figures carried across automatically.
  • Deadline reminders 60, 30, 14, 7 and 1 days before the accounts are due.

A dormant company usually doesn't file a CT600 unless HMRC sends it a notice to deliver one. If your company starts trading, you can move it to the micro-entity plan and last year's dormant figures carry across as comparatives.

Micro-Entity Accounts and CT600

Micro-Entity Accounts and the CT600 in One Place

A company is a micro-entity if it meets at least two of these three limits (for accounting periods starting on or after 6 April 2025):

LimitMicro-entity
Annual turnover£1 million or less
Balance sheet total£500,000 or less
Average number of employees10 or fewer

FileMyLtd prepares the micro-entity accounts for Companies House, then starts your CT600 Company Tax Return from the accounts you have just approved:

  • Adjust for tax items, such as client entertaining and capital allowances.
  • See the Corporation Tax worked out, with each step shown, including marginal relief for profits between £50,000 and £250,000.
  • Validate, then submit to HMRC with your company's Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) and HMRC sign-in details.

The CT600 is due 12 months after the end of the accounting period, but Corporation Tax is usually payable 9 months and 1 day after it. FileMyLtd reminds you of both.

FileMyLtd is built for straightforward small companies. If your company claims R&D relief, group relief or has overseas income, an accountant is the better choice.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About FileMyLtd

What directors ask before filing their own company accounts.

Can I file my own company accounts without an accountant?
Yes. Directors can file their own company's accounts, and most dormant and micro-entity companies don't need an accountant to do it. The director is responsible for the accounts either way. FileMyLtd prepares and checks the accounts, and you approve and submit them yourself.
How do I file dormant company accounts?
Dormant accounts are filed with Companies House within 9 months of the company's financial year end. In FileMyLtd you enter your company number, answer the dormancy questions, check the accounts and submit them with your company authentication code. From 1 April 2028, Companies House will only accept accounts filed with software.
Can I still file a CT600 on HMRC's website?
No. HMRC closed its "File your accounts and Company Tax Return" online service on 31 March 2026. Companies now have to use commercial software to file a CT600. FileMyLtd prepares the CT600 from your micro-entity accounts and submits it to HMRC once you approve it.
Is my company a micro-entity?
For accounting periods starting on or after 6 April 2025, a company is a micro-entity if it meets at least two of these limits: turnover of £1 million or less, a balance sheet total of £500,000 or less, and 10 or fewer employees on average.
What happens if I file my company accounts late?
Companies House charges a private company a late filing penalty of £150 if the accounts are up to one month late, rising to £375, £750 and £1,500 the later they are. The penalty is doubled if accounts are late in two financial years in a row. HMRC charges separate penalties for a late CT600.
Is FileMyLtd approved by HMRC or Companies House?
FileMyLtd is independent software. It is not part of, endorsed by or affiliated with Companies House or HMRC. It sends filings through their official software filing services and is in early access while filing is tested with both.
How much does FileMyLtd cost?
Each company has its own yearly plan, one for dormant companies and one for micro-entities that includes the CT600. Current prices, including the early-access offer, are on the FileMyLtd pricing page.
