HOW LOCAL SEARCH WORKS

What Is Local SEO?

Local SEO is the work that helps a business appear when people search for something nearby: "accountant near me", "emergency plumber Leeds", "physio in Bristol". Those searches show a map with a small set of businesses (the local pack), then ordinary results below it.

Google says local results are based mainly on three things:

  • Relevance: how well your business profile matches what the person searched for.
  • Distance: how far you are from the searcher, or from the place they named.
  • Prominence: how well known your business is, including reviews, links, articles and directory listings.

You can't move your office, but you can make your profile as relevant and complete as possible and build prominence over time. That is what local SEO does.

The same signals now feed AI answers. When someone asks ChatGPT or Gemini for a local recommendation, the assistant draws on what it can find and trust about you: your website, your Google Business Profile, directories and reviews.

WHAT WE DO

Our Local SEO Services

AreaWhat we doWhy it matters
Google Business ProfilePrimary and secondary categories, services, business description, hours and holiday hours, photos, products, Q&A, and regular updatesYour profile is often the first thing a local customer sees, before your website
Business details (NAP)Make your name, address and phone number consistent across your website, profile and directoriesConflicting details confuse customers and weaken trust signals
CitationsAudit and correct listings on the directories that matter in your sector and area, and remove duplicatesAccurate listings reinforce where you are and what you do
ReviewsA simple, compliant process to ask happy customers for reviews, and templates for replying to every reviewReviews influence both customers and prominence
Location and service pagesUseful pages for each location or service area, with real details (who you serve, how to find you, what's different there)Gives Google and AI assistants something substantial to match to local searches
Local structured dataLocalBusiness markup with address, opening hours, geo coordinates and a link to your profileHelps search engines connect your website to your listing

We don't buy reviews, create fake listings or use keyword-stuffed business names. They breach Google's guidelines and can get a profile suspended.

MULTI-LOCATION AND SERVICE-AREA BUSINESSES

Multi-Location and Service-Area Businesses

Several branches or offices. Each location needs its own verified Google Business Profile and its own page on your website, with its own address, hours, phone number, team and directions. Copying one page and changing the town name doesn't work; the pages need genuinely local detail.

Service-area businesses. If you visit customers rather than having them come to you, such as trades, cleaners or mobile services, Google lets you hide your address and set the areas you serve. Your website should explain which areas you cover and show real work in them.

Virtual offices and addresses. Google's guidelines require a real place where you meet customers or a genuine service area. We'll tell you honestly if a profile is at risk before you invest in it.

HOW WE WORK

How a Local SEO Project Runs

Fix the foundations first, then build prominence steadily.

Phase 01

Audit

We review your Google Business Profile, your listings across the web, your reviews, your location pages and how you appear against nearby competitors for the searches that matter.

Phase 02

Fix the Foundations

We complete and correct your profile, clean up inconsistent or duplicate listings, and add LocalBusiness structured data to your website.

Phase 03

Build Content and Reviews

We create or improve location and service pages, and set up a simple review request and reply routine your team can keep running.

Phase 04

Measure and Maintain

We track profile views, calls, direction requests and enquiries, keep the profile updated, and adjust based on what the data shows.

CHECK YOUR OWN PROFILE

A Quick Local SEO Checklist

You can check most of this yourself in ten minutes:

  • Is your Google Business Profile verified, with the most specific primary category for what you do?
  • Are your hours right, including bank holidays?
  • Does your name, address and phone number match exactly on your website, your profile and the main directories?
  • Do you have recent photos of your premises, team and work?
  • Do you reply to reviews, good and bad?
  • Does your website have a page for each location or service area, with genuinely local detail?
  • Does your website link to your profile, and your profile to the right page on your website?

To see whether AI assistants recommend you when customers ask, run a free AI Visibility Check. It asks six AI assistants the questions your customers type and shows who gets named.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about local SEO and Google Business Profile.

What do local SEO services include?
Google Business Profile optimisation, consistent business details and citations, a reviews process, location and service-area pages, local structured data, and reporting on calls, directions and enquiries.
How long does local SEO take to work?
Fixes to your profile and listings can be picked up within weeks, while building reviews and prominence takes months. It depends on how competitive your area and sector are. We won't promise a position or a timeline we can't control.
Can you get us into the Google local pack?
We can make your profile as relevant and complete as possible and help you build prominence, which is what Google says it uses. Distance from the searcher is outside anyone's control, so no honest agency can guarantee a place in the local pack.
Do you manage Google Business Profiles for multiple locations?
Yes. Each location needs its own verified profile and its own page on your website with genuinely local details. We manage them consistently and report on each one.
Should we buy reviews or use a keyword-stuffed business name?
No. Both breach Google's guidelines and can get your profile suspended. We help you ask real customers for reviews and reply to them properly.
Does local SEO affect AI search results?
Yes. AI assistants draw on your website, your Google Business Profile, directories and reviews when they recommend local businesses. Accurate, consistent details and good reviews help in both.
